Chloe Schippers

Hello,

My name is Chloe Schippers, and I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Denver, Colorado. I grew up as a child with a parent in the military and would split my time between living with my father in Colorado and with my mother in Virginia. This greatly impacted my life growing up and the themes within my art. I am working towards a Bachelor's in Fine Arts with the goal to one day open an art studio to teach classes in underprivileged communities. I want to help those who have faced challenges, need a safe space, or simply love to create and inspire.

To address the many experiences that come with being human, I have utilized art as an outlet and a tool. I have experienced many challenges throughout my life, including depression, anxiety, anorexia, CPTSD, and living with a chronic illness. These challenges have not overtaken my life but have provided new outlooks on healing and flourishing. Art has allowed me to reflect on my life and has driven me to help others.

As a multidisciplinary artist, I create works that cover a variety of materials and skills. These include painting, sculpture, jewelry, digital painting, and installation. Through each medium, I am to cover different topics in ways that will push viewers to reflect and interact. Most recently, I have found myself enamored with acrylic sheeting as a material. It allows for boundless possibilities and interacts with viewers in ways that paintings often cannot.

My Sculptures and installations, constructed of acrylic and recycled materials, interact with light and help the viewer see the world in various colors and perspectives, both physically and mentally. They cover themes that include mental health, the body, memory, and the mind. My Paintings range from intentional and detailed to abstract and sporadic to represent body image, and navigating mental illness and abuse.

My hope is to foster discussions around mental health, chronic illness, trauma, and joy that will bring light and reflections to the experiences in life that often go unrepresented, acknowledged, or are heavily stigmatized. No matter how it is said, the stories within our lives shape us. Every person has a story to tell, and I want to help in creating a world where we can tell our stories safely with open arms.
